Course List

Dementia 101: Understanding the Basics

Description: When a loved one receives a dementia diagnosis, it can feel like stepping into the unknown. This course is designed to clear the fog and provide an overview of what dementia actually is—and what it isn’t. Learners will explore the four most common types of dementia, discuss how the condition progresses over time, and provide practical insights to help you prepare for the road ahead. Whether you are a new caregiver or simply looking to understand the basics, this course offers the foundational knowledge you need to provide better care while maintaining your own well-being.

Dementia and the Senses: What Changes and Why

Description: This course explores the profound sensory shifts caused by cognitive decline. By understanding these changes, care-partners can adapt their environments and communication styles to create a safer, more comfortable world for those in their care.

Inside the Dementia Brain: A Deeper Look for Understanding

Description: Why does a person with dementia remember a childhood song but forget they just ate lunch? The answer lies in the physical geography of the brain. This course provides a "tour" of the human brain by identifying the specific regions responsible for various skills and abilities and how they are affected by dementia over time. By understanding the roadmap of cognitive decline, caregivers can stop fighting the disease and begin focusing on the strengths and abilities that still remain.
